The Academic Council of the schools is an integral and indispensable part of the school.
Subject to the ultimate responsibility of the Governing Body/ School Management Committee, the Academic Council is responsible for the maintenance of academic standards within the school, and the planning, co-ordination, development, oversight, validation and review of the curriculum and all academic work of the school and advising the Governing Body/ School Management Committee on the resource implications of such planning.
Responsibilities of Academic Council:
(a) to assess, design and develop academic programmes
(b) to establish structures to implement those programmes
(c) to make recommendations on programmes to the School Management Committee for the betterment of academic quality
(d) to make recommendations relating to the selection, admission, retention and exclusion of staff and students
(e) to propose the form and contents of rulings to be made relating to the academic affairs of the school, including the conduct of examinations, the determination of examination results and the evaluation of academic progress
(f) to make recommendations for awarding honours, scholarships, prizes or other awards
(g) to make general arrangements for tutorial or other academic counselling especially to the low achievers
(h) to perform any other functions, not in conflict with the Governing Body, and
(i) to implement any statutes and regulations made by the Governing Body.
